Powering On and Off the Sound System in the Theater

In order to prevent damage to the sound system (and inappropriate usage when the staff is not present), it is highly recommended to power off the system when it is not in use. Powering off disconnects the power supplies from the AC circuits they are attached to, so the equipment is (mostly) protected from lightning surges or brown outs.

Powering On

Generally, the sequence runs from “source” to “destination”. This means that things furthest away from the speakers in the signal chain get powered on before the things closest to the speakers.

  1. At the mixing booth, turn on the DEQ2496 by pushing in the power button on its front panel.
  2. At the mixing booth, turn on the CD player, if it is to be used.
  3. At the mixing booth, remove the X32 dust cover and place it in a secure location.
  4. At the mixing booth, turn on the X32 mixer by flipping the rocker switch on the back, stage left side (closest to the CD player and DEQ2496). Wait for the boot up sequence to complete. You will likely hear a quiet pop from the balcony speakers (which, unfortunately, cannot be turned off at this time).
  5. In the amp room, turn on the S32 using the switch in the back (reach in from behind the rack to turn it on).
  6. In the amp room, turn on the CX3400 crossover using the push button on its front panel.
  7. Turn on the amplifiers in RACK 1 (left-hand side), one by one, starting from the bottom. No need, however, to turn on the two topmost amplifiers.
  8. At the mixing booth, the X32 should have returned to the last state used. If necessary, recall Scene 1 to return to the normal baseline.

Powering Off

Generally, the sequence runs from “destination” to “source”, the opposite of powering on.

  1. At the mixing booth, on the X32, lock the screen by holding down the HOME button for more than 3 seconds. In addition to locking the screen, this ensures that all pending data in memory is written to the flash storage within the console.
  2. In the amp room, turn off all amplifiers in RACK 1 (left-hand side).
  3. In the amp room, turn off the CX3400 cross over using the push button on its front panel.
  4. In the amp room, turn off the S32 using the switch on its back (reach in from behind the rack to turn it off).
  5. In the mixing booth, turn off the X32 mixer by flipping the rocker switch on the back, stage left side (closest to the CD player and DEQ2496). You will hear a slight pop from the balcony speakers (no way to turn them off at this time).
  6. In the mixing booth, turn off the CD player, if it was used.
  7. In the mixing booth, turn off the DEQ2496 by pushing the power button on its front panel.
  8. In the mixing booth, cover the X32 with the dust cover.
